This week saw the 2nd round of games in the Berkshire Squash Winter League. It was the first game for the 1st team at home and away games for the 2nd and 3rd teams.

Maidenhead 1 vs Hart 2
Maidenhead 1sts started their season off with a tough home fixture against Hart 2 who benefited from two Hart 1 players playing at the top of their order or merit due to the recent withdrawal of their 1st team from the Premier league. Predictably therefore, we were always going to be on the back foot.
The game was unfortunately rather one sided and with Maidenhead missing their usual number 1 player due to a work priority we were unable to contain them and lost 5-0 in games and 20-5 overall in points.
Individual Scores were as follows:

Maidenhead 2 vs The Real Fitness First
A great game that went down to the 5th game of the final match. Andrew's assured touch at the front put us one up, but Robin couldn't match the intensity of his jack-in-the-box opponent.
Janak and Alex's games were close but only Alex could see it across the line in a hugely absorbing game.
That left it 2-2 with Jason to play Jeremy Nokes, who had beaten Darren Smith when the 1sts played this team last season. Jason went 2-1 up with some great controlled depth and high intensity on his backhand forcing mistakes from his opponent..as well as a few very effective nicks and frame shots!, but Jeremy found his range, particularly with his cross-court boasts and drives from the back and came back to take it 3-2, and with it the overall match.
A great performance however given good opposition and the loss of a few players to cover the gaps in the 1sts.

Maidenhead 3 vs David Lloyd Newbury
The player issues in the first two teams had a knock on effect to the 3rds but we still managed to turn out a full team for this first away trip.
Fortunately for us, we were playing one of the weaker teams in the Division as it is their first league and the centre itself only opened in January. Their first two strings were quite strong and gave Jerry and Matt tough games but we won the lower 3 games relatively easily.
As it happens, due to an administrative error on Newbury's part, they were penalised and forfeited the bottom three games anyway for playing players out of order. But another win for the 3rds sees them at the top of their division with the next game at home - a top of the table clash against Wellington 5!
Individual Scores were as follows:
